finally, an effort.

It sure has been awhile, hasn't it? Months and months of nothingness. Truth is, I neglected to update because of life throwing curveball after curveball at me. So many things have changed and it was hard for me to handle...being a sentimental person, letting go is never easy. All these things that I had so dearly loved and enjoyed suddenly disappeared and left me grasping at the space it used to occupy.

I don't know if it's appropriate for me to air personal grievances on this blog, but ah well. I just thought that I had better check in and breathe some life into this poor blog.

I hope that when everything has settled, I will become a stronger and better person. Though I had no motivation to write/take pictures/do anything at all, I will push myself to update something.

Hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving (to those celebrating!) and have enjoyed the massive amounts of discounts floating about.

online shopping hacks + a constant

It's been awhile! I've been overwhelmed with a lot of changes and haven't been able to update. The thing is, I have some time to dedicate to this blog as I now have a newly-minted B.A. degree under my belt! Even if things change, this blog is always here for me to update. So, this becomes an unchanging constant...for now. Ah, now to plunge into the difficulties of finding a job! Here's hoping that it goes somewhat successfully...

For those of you who online shop a lot, you most likely have your own methods of finding the best deals on things. Being resourceful is key! Out of those many resources, though, wishlists are very, very helpful in helping me getting a good deal on things that I actually want to buy. Take for example Urban Outfitters! I like to browse their website because they have a pretty good selection of things I want. Whenever I find something I am interested in, I immediately add it to my wishlist.
Whenever I do go back on UO (and I do this more often than I'd like to admit...), one of the first things I do is to log onto my wishlist and scan the things I have added. I use it as a tool to check if something that I have been interested in has gone on sale, and continue to do this until it has. Sometimes I will wait even if it does go on sale initially, because I know that the price will eventually drop lower! I've gotten many, many of the things I truly want this way and saved myself some money at the same time. Some things do sell out quickly if I don't act on them, but usually I end up realizing that I didn't really want it anyway.

I know that there are other websites out there that alert you when something you like goes on sale, and those are very helpful! But if you tend to shop at the same few stores and don't need to use their services, the wishlist function comes in very handy. It also helps weed out purchases that you don't REALLY like but get just because it is on sale, so...win win!

Skimming the Surface - Wardrobe Edition

Some of my most recent acquisitions, although these three items barely skim the surface. I've splurged on a leather jacket (or two...), bought leather runner shorts, ordered vintage items from Etsy, among other things.

The floral patterned shirt was a find at a Goodwill when I was itching to go thrifting! I laugh and joke that it makes me look like an old grandpa, but it's so nice to wear when it's hot outside! The shorts I picked up via Etsy, and it fits a bit tightly, but I like it nonetheless. I think the reason why it fits like it does is because it's cut from a pair of men's jeans...and they don't really allow for someone who has an, uh, curvier hip area.

The lovely pea-green scuba material skirt is by Funktional! I bought it off Need Supply when it was on major sale, and I love how structured it is. I've seen a few floating around the web so if you like flippy skirts, go for it!

lemon lime.

(Lemon-lime shirt - Etsy, Striped top - Forever 21, Leather runner shorts - Topshop, Metallic Bronze slip-ons - Vans)

I know that I've been gone for the longest time but it has been very hard to find time to blog! Sometimes you have those days where you know you should get it done, but never get around to doing it. I finally was able to take a few quick pictures with this silk shirt I bought while perusing Etsy; I'm not sure I like it 100%, since it is really bright in person, but wanted to take it out for a spin before I decide whether or not it has a permanent space in my closet.

I also upgraded my vans slip-ons to these SHINY bronze ones, and I feel like it's one step up from the usual ones I used to wear before this. Now I don't have to feel so casual when I wear them. Yay! P.S. - I just realized that I have three posts in a row with these leather shorts. Good job, me! Getting your money's worth :P

tiles, carousels, mint walls.

(Faux leather sleeve parka - Lamb & Flag, scarf - Forever 21, rose tights - Forever 21, leather runner shorts - Topshop, quilted bag - Vintage)

Thought I'd be a bit old school today and took my instax out for a spin. Here are some random snaps that I made my boyfriend take for me while we walked around in the sunny weather! He was obviously a bit confused when I wanted to take a picture with a mint green wall, but artistic vision doesn't have to be understood...right? ;P

bell flowers.

(Silk embroidered top - Opening Ceremony, leather runner shorts - Topshop, boots - Steve Madden)

Some of the newest additions to my closet that I haven't had a chance to photograph yet. I purchased the shorts a month ago after spotting it on the Topshop website. After realizing that I had always wanted a pair of leather shorts (haha), I decided to go for it. They have a elasticated waist and are extremely comfortable to wear, which usually means that it was a great decision to purchase it.

This top! If I could wax poetic about it, I would. I spotted it on Need Supply for almost 1/3rd of the original price and had to snap it right up. The embroidery actually reminds me of the Phillip Lim pieces I recently mentioned (and will probably continue to mention, seeing as how I've brought it up again already) and has a lovely grey sheen to it. I'm so very glad that I decided to take the plunge and purchase it! I did also purchase another GORGEOUS top but unfortunately returned it as I didn't quite like the fit...I'm still telling myself that it was a good decision, because even clothes that fit slightly off don't get worn as much.

Okay, back to work! I just had to gush about today's outfit and now I must get back to doing studious things like I should be doing. Happy Friday! :)

P.S. That picture of me leaning awkwardly? I thought it was funny and now you can laugh at it, too. You're welcome!

3.1 phillip lim Spring 2014 + zara inspirations

(Pictures courtesy of Style.com and Zara)

When I first looked at Phillip Lim's S/S 2014 collection, I gave a little internal scream. The geode-inspired pieces are quirky and delicate in just the right way. Of course, whenever I look at collections and start to drool over them, I realize that most of the pieces are way out of my price range. Are you like me and want to wear colorful rocks on your body? Thankfully, Zara came through with the perfect alternative to your geode-haunted sartorial dreams. The next best thing to actually wearing geodes, which can head you towards rocky (hahahaha) fashion territory.

You can purchase the Zara sweatshirt here!

Affordable thrill: Scalloped Shorts

(Pictures courtesy of Forever 21)

Late night online window shopping equals finding something that is cute and affordable! At only $8.80, add a pop of bright color to your wardrobe without breaking the bank. I'm really digging the little notch in the front..reminds me of a similar pair of shorts I spotted on Topshop! You can shop this under-10dollars-steal here!

lace on lace.

(Lace embroidered top - Urban Outfitters *on sale here!*, Cutwork lace skirt - Topshop, Mini M.A.C. - Rebecca Minkoff, socks - Forever 21, Shoes - Vagabond)

Say hello to my lace and pastel explosion. Picked up this top over a month ago and now it's on sale, whereas it had stayed stashed in my drawer until now. Oh well :( I thought that the lace work on the top would play up the lace on the skirt..and here is the combo. It also helps that it is the perfect shade of pale lavender!

I'm quite loving the pastel-on-pastel tone of my outfit...even though pastels may seem like you're trying to be an easter egg, I feel like the lace in the outfit gives the perfect amount of delicacy to the overall look. Fashion is all about taking risks, right? ;)

Right after I took these photos I noticed that my skirt had some unfortunate discoloring, probably due to my negligence on placing it on a dusty surface. UGH. I washed it immediately and now I am hoping that no permanent damage is done! Here's to hoping that my skirt (currently drying on a hanger, not risking any solid surface now) comes out relatively unscathed from the ordeal.

School things are currently about to swallow me whole, so I apologize in advance if there aren't any new posts for awhile. I am making an effort, though! I really am!

butterfly-esque.

(Embroidered kimono jacket - Urban Outfitters, Top - Forever 21, Necklace - Forever 21, Asymmetrical print skort - Topshop (gift from the bf ♥), Shoes - Vagabond)

Only after these photos were taken were the words, "Why is my hair so puffy?!" uttered. I swear it wasn't like that this morning..or maybe it was, because it could have been like this all day. It's a reminder that my hair desperately needs a haircut.

Some new pieces to my wardrobe that I get to share! This kimono jacket was something I drooled over when it was added to the UO website and stores, and I scored it during one of the '50% off all sale' sales they were having. Patience is a virtue. I know sometimes I am quite impatient and buy things full price anyway, but for some things that you like but don't want to pay a pretty penny for...sales are your best friends. This skort was also a Christmas gift from the lovely SO (that I hardly mention here, but should I? :P) that I picked up when I went to Topshop to exchange another gift that I'd ordered online. I think it was quite a great decision. When I went to get it, there weren't any in my size...until a sales associate walked by and placed the skort (IN MY SIZE!!) on the rack. So, long story short, home with me it went.

Also, pouty faces and slouchiness. Don't slouch or you'll look incredibly awkward in photos, as evidenced above.

comfort days.

(Gold foil dinosaur fossil sweat - Forever 21, red pants - Forever 21, cat necklace - Nordstrom Rack, 'Arthur' oxfords - Messeca)

Sometimes there are those days when you have errands to run and classes to attend and the last thing on your mind is what you're going to be wearing that day. I happened to have one of those days today and went for comfort! Threw on this sweat top I happened to buy in December and have been wearing almost religiously since; it's really comfortable and spices it up a little bit. Perfect for those days when you don't want to be "boring" but also want to be comfortable.

These pants...are my go to pants. If you documented my outfit on the days I don't get to snap a photo, you would probably find me wearing them. They're so easy to throw on and go..for the meager price I paid for these (I think $25), I am definitely getting my money's worth. I know I'm not the only who has a full closet-worth of clothes, but end up reaching for the same pieces time and time again.

If this isn't my 'lazy day' outfit, I don't know what is :P Hope the pictures of the flowers brighten up your day! I pass by them every morning and I just stare at them for a good 30 seconds every time. Nothing like the beauty of nature to make you smile or appreciate the small things.

favorite of the week: GAP leather clutches

(Leather flap clutch - All images courtesy of GAP)

Browsed the internet this morning and randomly chanced upon these gems. The colors and shape all pull at my heartstrings. If you've been looking for a spring clutch, why not? The price tag is kind too..;)

galaxy supernova.

(Batwing knit sweater - Brandy & Melville, Cosmic print dress (worn underneath) - Evil Twin, black thigh-high socks - Urban Outfitters, booties - Steve Madden)

Finally had time for a quick outfit picture post today! Bought this dress about a year ago but never really got around to taking photos with it; here it is now! It's a bit cooler in temperature so I am finally able to layer up in sweaters and things. Yay! I am pretty much recovered from that cold/flu (yuck, hope everyone's taking precautions not to get sick!) but it's hard to get back into the grind. As I am writing this, my eyes are practically begging me to take a nap..

Happy hump day, and here's looking forward to friday, which is Lunar New Year! Happy year of the Horse, and to those whose signs are Horses, I hope that 2014 is a wonderful year for you :)

p.s. Also, that hanger tag desperately wanted to be in my photos. Please excuse its naughtiness, I know your eyes go STRAIGHT TO IT ahahahha T_T

peachy keen!

Somehow came down with a bug and have been trudging my way through the week...not a nice feeling! With that being said, it puts my blog plans on the back burner as I attempt to feel better to do everything I need to get done.

Recently purchased this lovely peach coloured Mini MAC (at a discount!!) and had to take a photo of it. I've been wanting to own a mini MAC/mini 5-zip for quite awhile now and actually purchasing it was quite the experience. Partly because I was so scared to make a big purchase. Although, when I think about it, I've purchased Jeffrey Campbells that were more expensive than this thing...

chartreuse + black!

(Sheer chiffon and lace top - Shakuhachi, Bustier (worn underneath) - MINKPINK, Chartreuse double-slit midi skirt - Topshop, Black booties - Steve Madden, Chain and leather necklace - Nordstrom Rack)

Sooo in a moment of weakness I snagged this skirt online...but it was half/over half off so it makes it slightly easier to rationalize! :P Wore it for the first time today and it was really intriguing to see bare leg each time I walked. I know I bare my bare legs (hahaha, the puns) all the time when I wear shorts, but the length of fabric made flashing my skin so much more..sexy. What a word.

I realize that in today's pictures, I have squinty eyes. I blame it on my monolidded-ness and the intense sunshine. Also, not wearing tall socks with these booties = chafing. I have a small raw spot on my shin and it hurts! Ouch. The things that we go through for fashion...but hey, if it looks good, it makes it bearable..right?

A long weekend is ahead and I still have something else planned! Whether or not I get around to it, well, is the question :P Hope you're enjoying your lovely friday!

pixie market dreams.

(Images via Pixie Market)

Some random pieces that I wish I had in my closet right now. I know that the weather is a really cliché thing to talk about, but it's certainly something on my mind right now. It's been abnormally hot in California and apparently it was the driest year on record. Shall I break out into a rain dance to coax the skies to cry a bit? I love my shorts and all, but I'd really like to experience some change. The fact that California is in a drought doesn't make it any better, either.

Well, that's enough about the weather..I hope those of you stuck in chilly weather are faring well! I'd gladly lend you a few degrees if that's okay with you ;)

A long weekend is ahead and I've already planned on updating the blog quite a bit..so stay tuned for some long deserved outfit posts! At least I'm doing better than before :P

early blooms.

(Embroidered floral top - Topshop, red skinnies - Forever 21, Monk strap shoes - Vagabond, chain necklace - Forever 21, Quilted bag - Vintage)

First post of the new year! I think the weather has been so mild that the trees are blooming...which is weird, because it really seems like a far too early time for them to bloom. Where will the flowers be when it is actually springtime?! Maybe I'm just mistaken and this tree is just an early bloomer, but still :P I love these magnolia blossoms! They make my walk to classes much brighter and I love looking up at them.

Do you remember seeing this top in one of my wishlist posts earlier? ;) After coveting it for months, it is finally mine! It is even better in person and I want to wear it every day. I've already worn it two days in a row (shh...outfit repeating isn't that serious of an offense, I swear!!) I can't wait to wear it with other combinations from my warddrobe. I just need to experiment more, I suppose.

Going to school three days a week and then an internship for the other two is going to make my schedule really hectic, but I promise to try! Besides, how else will I share my recent acquisitions? I feel like it's something I can do on my blog because, well, that is the purpose of a fashion blog. Gushing about clothes. Reminds me of a lecture I had just earlier today about advertisements and change to a consumer culture...but I digress.

Hope your friday goes smooth and well! It's friday! Enjoy your weekend :)
